Victim in Berthoud shooting now identified

The 49-year-old woman killed in an April 28 shooting in Berthoud was reportedly struck by a bullet shot into her home at random, according to reporting from 9News.
The woman ― who the Larimer County Coroner’s Office has since identified as Jennifer Lynn James ― was found in her home with a bullet wound around 11:20 p.m. April 28, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. Responding deputies and a Colorado State Patrol trooper provided first aid, but James died at the scene.
The coroner’s office ruled her death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to her chest.
Investigators discovered two holes consistent with bullet holes on the front of James’ house ― located in the 500 block of First Street in Berthoud. They determined the rounds had likely been fired from the road in front of her home, according to 9News.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage of the area and eventually identified 20-year-old Ebenezer Worku, of Denver, as a suspect. Worku was arrested May 1 and booked into the Larimer County Jail on a first-degree murder charge, according to the sheriff’s office.
Worku was issued a $1.25 million cash-only bond and was listed as an inmate at the jail as of 2 p.m. May 2, according to court records and the Larimer County Jail website.
Worku appeared in court May 9. His next appearance is schedule for June 6.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Arrests and charges are merely accusations by law enforcement until, and unless, a suspect is convicted of a crime.
