The Washington Capitals don’t yet know if they’ll have four lineup regulars ready to go against the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night.
Tom Wilson, Rasmus Sandin, Matt Roy, and Declan Chisholm all missed practice at Climate Pledge Arena on Monday, and head coach Spencer Carbery didn’t have much of an update on them after the team’s morning skate. All four are expected to be game-time decisions.
“We’ll find out tonight,” Carbery said pregame. “Still working through some things, so we’ll find out tonight.”
Wilson and Roy both played in the team’s last game against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night, with Wilson skating 19:31 of ice time and Roy seeing 21:27. Roy, 30, is one of just six Capitals players to feature in all 53 games this season, while Wilson is just three games removed from missing eight games with a lower-body injury.
Sandin may be the biggest concern among the four, as the 25-year-old rearguard was unable to finish the 6-5 overtime loss to the Oilers. He played just 5:07 of ice time before suffering a lower-body injury with just 19 seconds remaining in the first frame.
Chisholm was a healthy scratch in Edmonton and has not played since he took the ice for the Capitals against the Colorado Avalanche on January 19. If the Capitals are without Chisholm, Roy, and Sandin, they will not have enough healthy blueliners to complete a full six-man defense corps.
Up front, the Capitals can cover a potential Wilson absence, as regular extra forward Sonny Milano is on the team’s road trip.
The Kraken enter the contest with just three wins in their last 10 games, but they did win their last game, 4-2 over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday. In an October 21 matchup at Capital One Arena, the Capitals got goals from Wilson, Ryan Leonard, Nic Dowd, and Jakob Chychrun in a 4-1 victory.
