Oklahoma City Thunder superstar and reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reassured everyone on Sunday that he and his family are safe following a burglary at his Oklahoma home during a Thunder game late last week.
“Long story short, everybody’s safe, and that’s all that really matters in the whole thing,” Gilgeous-Alexander told reporters in Oklahoma City after he led the Thunder to a 137-106 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
“Everything else can come and go, but my loved ones are safe, so I’m OK. I’m happy.”
The break-in at Gilgeous-Alexander’s home occurred on Thursday, during the Thunder’s home game against the Washington Wizards.
The Nichols Hills Police Department did not immediately respond to The Athletic’s request for comment. The Associated Press reported that police have not disclosed whether anyone was at home during the break-in or whether any possessions were stolen.
“The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival,” police told The Associated Press. “While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger.”
The break-in is the latest in an array of robberies that have occurred at the homes of high-profile athletes this year, while those athletes were known to be playing games for their respective teams.
The Athletic’s Joel Lorenzi contributed to this report.
