The Second Model in the Mercedes-Benz Mythos Range

Mercedes-AMG is testing a second model from the Mercedes-Benz Mythos lineup under the extreme conditions of northern Sweden: a limited serie PureSpeed coupé based on the Mercedes CLE.

In 2024, Mercedes unveiled the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed concept ahead of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix: a radical, open two-seater without a roof or windshield. The production version was presented in December 2024, ahead of the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is based on the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 platform and is built in only 250 units, with an estimated price of around USD 1 million (approximately EUR 922,000).

Now, Mercedes has begun winter testing for a second model: a PureSpeed coupé based on the Mercedes CLE.

Mercedes has never provided details about this model, describing it only as “an exceptionally extreme Mercedes-AMG”. However, the fact that Mercedes is already conducting winter tests indicates that the car is in a fairly advanced stage of development.

Although the car is heavily camouflaged, several important details can still be observed, such as the large fixed rear wing, flared wheel arches, large front air intakes, and the four exhaust pipes. Looking at that oversized rear wing, nostalgics will probably be reminded of the famous Mercedes 190 2.5-16 Evolution II from the 1990s, which itself will also receive a remake by HWA.

As for the powertrain, the second model in the Mythos series will almost certainly feature the new twin-turbo V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft. This engine will debut on the facelifted S-Class on January 29, 2026, and will later be used in AMG performance models.

Thanks to the flat-plane crankshaft design, which supports higher revs, we expect increased output that could exceed 700 PS. In order to keep weight low, a PHEV system like the one used in the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance is ruled out—especially since Mercedes will gradually phase out this system. According to our information, the new facelifted Mercedes S-Class will be the first to abandon this high-performance PHEV system.

As with the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, the PureSpeed coupé based on the CLE will also be produced in a limited series, making its price prohibitive and accessible only to millionaires and collectors.
