Framing Creates Beauty
Frames create beauty.
They accentuate the best in a painting.
Some frames are ornate, others simple. While a few masterpieces can stand on their own, most paintings benefit from the perfect frame — one that draws the eye toward what matters most.
I’ve found the same is true for my life.
🌅 Framing the Day
How I frame my day — the way I begin and end it — massively impacts the quality of the center.
Many people talk about the importance of morning routines: centering oneself, clarifying priorities, and quieting before God. Fewer talk about the end of the day — slowing down, reflecting, preparing for rest.
Both matter.
Because the frame makes day!
⛳ Framing the Round
Framing also applies to golf.
If I rush into a round with no warmup, it often costs me one, two, or three strokes as my body and mind find rhythm. Sometimes, without a warmup, I never get there at all.
Likewise, if I rush away after the final putt, I miss something essential — the reflection, the connection, the joy of the afterglow.
The “after” is part of the round:
-
The 19th hole drink and conversation with a friend
-
A few minutes reviewing stats or jotting notes about what went well
-
A laugh about the shot that didn’t work
Each person’s frame looks different, depending on why they play. For me, many average rounds have been redeemed by the conversation that followed.
🕰️ Pay Attention to the Frame
On busy days, a short five-minute stretch and a handful of warmup shots might be all I need to start well.
After a round, jotting down a few reflections or stats helps me savor the experience. These small rituals — beginning and ending with intention — complete and color what might otherwise be an ordinary, forgettable round.
Developing a routine around the frame of golf, or of life, is a simple but powerful discipline.
It enhances performance — it extends enjoyment.
💭 A Question to Carry
What does your frame look like? Define it. Decide on your minimal frame (5 minute stretch and tracking stats after) and your preferred, larger frame.
In your day, your work, your relationships — how are you beginning and ending the moments that matter most?
Because the beauty an experience often depends on the presence of its frame.
