OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A surfer was rescued from the Pacific Ocean near the Oceanside Pier Friday night, but was taken to the hospital and given CPR after being in distress in the water for nearly an hour.
Several water rescue crews including the U.S. Coast Guard, lifeguards and the Oceanside Fire Department responded around 4:20 p.m. Friday to reports of a surfer that was seen without their surfboard and appeared to be in distress close to the 600 block of The Strand near the Oceanside Pier in downtown Oceanside, the Oceanside Police Department reported.
Oceanside Police confirmed the surfer was rescued around 5:15 p.m., nearly an hour after they were first reported to be in distress. Police said first responders had to perform CPR on the surfer and took them to a hospital in unknown condition.
