San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has gotten off to a blazing start to his 2025-26 season, and is the key reason why the Spurs have gotten off to their first 2-0 start since 2020-21.
Wembanyama opened the season with a stunning performance against the Dallas Mavericks, scoring 40 points and recording 15 rebounds in a blowout win over the Dallas Mavericks, showing off the work he did in the offseason.
“I can assure you, nobody has trained like I did this summer,” Wembanyama said. “And this is my best summer so far. I can tell the progress is just incredible. I feel better, I look stronger and the scale says I’m heavier. So, everything is a green light.”

He followed up his 40-point performance against the Mavericks with another amazing game against the New Orleans Pelicans, during which he had 29 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocks in an overtime win on the road.

“He’s clearly gotten bigger, stronger, more aggressive, playing with more force,” a Western Conference scout said to ESPN. “And he’s going to take over the whole f—ing league if he stays healthy.”
Wembanyama has made a steady improvement during his time in the NBA, and he seems to have taken another step yet again before this season.

In his first NBA season, 2023-24, Wembanyama won the Rookie of the Year award unanimously, averaging 21.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game and leading the league with 3.6 blocks per game. He also was named to the All-Defensive First Team. His sophomore season was even more impressive, once again leading the NBA in blocks with an even higher mark of 3.8 per game while raising his points per game to 24.3 and rebounds per game to 24.3.
Wembanyama is currently averaging 34.5 points per game and 11 rebounds per game, and while he has only player two games this season, the rest of the league could be in trouble if he continues to produce these kinds of numbers.
