Ryusei Yokohama takes on the role of Ren Kosaka, a talented artist who falls for Sara Minami’s Miu Hamasaki. While all these things are true, Song Kang and Han So-hee’s Korean version of Nevertheless is ultimately still better. Both actors are at the top of their games in the K-drama. Their chemistry is palpable, and the confusing feelings they have to sort through are clearly displayed.
Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love has 8 episodes which run for about 30 minutes, while Nevertheless has 10 episodes, running for about 70 minutes or more each.
Nevertheless has another advantage over the Japanese remake of the series, and that is that it’s longer. This gives the romantic K-drama ample time to flesh out all of its characters and highlight other stories. It could be argued that Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love has the disadvantage of retelling a story audiences have already watched and loved before, so it doesn’t necessarily set itself apart. However, the Korean version of Nevertheless isn’t better merely because it was released first. Song and Han are mesmerizing, and they both give career-defining performances.

Jae-on isn’t a typical male lead in a romantic K-drama because of how he feels about relationships. He isn’t a bad guy, but it’s so difficult to paint him as a good guy since he seems to give Na-bi mixed signals. While Nevertheless portrays modern romance, it’s also quite intense. Song Kang shows how much of a nuanced actor he is in Nevertheless, bringing charisma to his character and perfectly complements Han So-hee.
