There is a fitness game changer in Romulus.
The city, in conjunction with Priority Health and the National Fitness Campaign, cut the ribbon Oct. 17 on a brand new outdoor Fitness Court, located at 35765 North Line Road.
Features of the court include a studio addition specially designed for group fitness classes separate from the individual seven work-out section.
Romulus is one of 25 Campaign Partners building a network of Fitness Courts across the state.
There are now 31 Priority Health Fitness Courts in Michigan, bringing free access to exercise and overall health and wellness to neighbors in Michigan.
The studio was developed by the city of Romulus, Priority Health, and the National Fitness Campaign to communities across the region.
Officials describe the Fitness Court Studio as an outdoor gym that lets users use their own body weight for a complete workout across seven exercise stations.
It also adds a second outdoor wellness classroom to the popular Fitness Court, offering Zumba, yoga, Pilates, dance and an endless variety of outdoor classes to expand free access to high-quality workouts.
According to the creators, the facility is designed for adults of all abilities, ages 14 and older.
Studio workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace.
Users also can download the free Fitness Court App that serves as a coach and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
Romulus Mayor Robert McCraight couldn’t be happier to have the equipment in the city.
“We’re proud that Romulus has been chosen as Michigan’s newest Fitness Court Studio location,” McCraight said. “Thanks to our partners, Priority Health and National Fitness Campaign, this state-of-the-art facility is a valuable addition to Opportunity Park at the Romulus Athletic Center and strengthens our ongoing commitment to enhancing community parks and expanding outdoor recreation for all.”
There are now 32 Priority Health Fitness Courts in Michigan, bringing free access to exercise and overall health and wellness to neighbors across the state. Last year alone, more than 205,000 Michiganders used the Fitness Courts, burning more than 51 million calories.
“Priority Health is excited to welcome the city of Romulus to the growing group of Michigan cities who are prioritizing free access to health and fitness for their residents through a Priority Health-sponsored Fitness Court. Together we can create an environment of health and wellness accessible to every single Romulus resident,” said Jill Nelson, senior marketing specialist in community relations for Priority Health.
Mitch Menaged, founder of the National Fitness Campaign said, “We are excited to have the city of Romulus join us in the journey to improve health and wellness as we work to make a powerful and long-lasting impact on health outcomes and happiness by building healthy communities across America.
“The addition of the outdoor Fitness Court Studio, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
