On Friday in Rabat, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, received El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly of the Senegal, as part of a visit aimed at strengthening political consultation and consolidating cooperation ties between the two countries.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, the Senegalese official reaffirmed his country’s continued commitment to supporting the Royal Atlantic Africa Initiative, which seeks to promote security and stability and achieve shared development for African countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean, as well as landlocked countries requiring access to port and airport infrastructure.
The President of the Senegalese National Assembly explained that his country’s legislative institution is preparing to organize a second session of this initiative in the capital, Dakar, during April or May, with a view to moving toward the practical implementation phase of this initiative, which brings together 28 African countries. He considered that the initiative reflects a spirit of solidarity and shared responsibility among African nations, and embodies an African-driven approach to addressing development challenges.
Regarding the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity, the Senegalese official reiterated his country’s firm position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the Autonomy Initiative proposed by Morocco. He also congratulated the Kingdom following the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, recalling Senegal’s consistent support for Morocco in international forums.
At the bilateral level, the President of the National Assembly stated that his talks with the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs focused on issues of mutual interest, particularly ways to strengthen Moroccan–Senegalese cooperation in economic, social, religious, and cultural fields, within the framework of a South–South partnership based on trust and mutual benefit.
He further praised the quality of relations between Rabat and Dakar, stressing the importance of high-level visits in advancing these relations to broader horizons. He also pointed to the upcoming visit of the Senegalese Prime Minister to Morocco on the occasion of the 15th session of the Joint High Commission, whose level of representation has been upgraded to that of the two countries’ heads of government.
On another note, the Senegalese official commended Morocco’s organization of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, considering that this edition will constitute a landmark moment in the history of African football and a source of inspiration for many countries.
