Dozer, the golden retriever who brought endless joy to ‘RecipeTin Eats’ founder Nagi Maehashi, as well as her foodie fans all over the world, has sadly passed away.
Nagi shared the news with her 1.7 million Instagram following saying, “He didn’t make it. My heart is shattered.”
Dozer, who was the Chief Taste Tester for Nagi’s culinary creations and a cookbook cover star, had been dealing with a lung infection.
Nagi first shared news of his deteriorating health on January 24, posting a video of Dozer lying down at the vet. She was right next to him, lovingly holding and patting him.
“He has a lung infection and I just found out it’s spread to his other lung,” Nagi captioned the video.
“Given his existing medical condition (laryngeal paralysis/neurological degradation) and age (almost 14!), I’ve been and will continue to be by his side every minute I can. He’s getting the best possible care at @sash_vets North Ryde. I can’t speak highly enough of the women and men who work here, everyone from the vets to to the nurses to the surgeons to reception. Whatever happens, I will be forever grateful.”
She ended her message, “Please be strong Dozer. I’m not ready to say goodbye.”

Nagi then announced she would be stepping away from her popular food blog for a little while so she could be with Dozer. After spending several days in the ICU, Dozer passed away at the age of 13.
“Thank you for all the years of love you’ve shown Dozer, for sharing your own fur baby stories, and for making him feel so deeply adored far beyond our little world,” Nagi wrote.
But it was really the immense love Nagi showed Dozer that made us all fall in love with him. The way she included him in her videos, her philanthropic work with RecipeTin Meals and shared little updates about their latest adventures together.
We felt her love through our screens, and it was beautiful.
