PANAMA: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari participated in the 2026 Latin America and Caribbean International Economic Forum, organised by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (DBELCA) in Panama City.
Dr Al Ansari spoke at a panel discussion at the forum entitled ‘From Energy to Innovation: Shaping a Shared Agenda between Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East for the Next Decade’.
The Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar’s openness to Latin American and Caribbean countries is part of a strategic approach aimed at building diverse and stable partnerships that contribute to enhancing regional and global resilience, particularly in light of the rapid transformations witnessed by the international system.
He highlighted the commonalities that form the basis of cooperation between the two sides, foremost among them a commitment to multilateralism and respect for international law, the importance of dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes, as well as cooperation in the fields of energy and addressing the challenges of climate change.
The Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that diversifying economies and energy sources is a fundamental pillar for enhancing economic resilience. He emphasized the role of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a transitional energy source that supports energy security and contributes to reducing emissions, alongside increasing investments in clean energy and low-carbon technologies.
Dr Al Ansari addressed the importance of aligning international partnerships with national priorities to ensure the sustainability of cooperation and achieve long-term developmental impact. He noted that the success of these partnerships depends on clear regulatory frameworks, enhanced governance and transparency, capacity building, and translating strategic directions into actionable projects.
In concluding his remarks, the Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Latin America and the Caribbean are strategic partners for the State of Qatar in shaping a future agenda focused on energy security, food and water security, and applied digital solutions, contributing to stability and shared growth over the next decade.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with Sergio Diaz Granados, CEO of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, where they reviewed ways to enhance cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Bank.
