In recent political changes, PGA started an initiative to eliminate slow play. This comes in the wake of a survey of 50,000 furnaces last summer asking the fans about their opinion on slow play. It was later reaffirmed by the chief marketing and communications officials at PGA Tour andy Weitz through Gravel beach. What does this mean for this sport, and what are the solutions to help reduce it?

What is slow play? What is public opinion?

Slow play is only when the player takes a very long time to take his footage, either takes a long time to align his footage or take a lot of training footage. It can be caused by the cycle conditions for anyone playing at home. Slow play was a long -term issue that players and fans criticized. It was also not respected for everyone’s time, especially when a round can reach 5 1/2 hours. It can be incredibly frustrated with a slow player in any sport, but not much has been done about it in the golf game. This is even this last development.

Sanctions for slow play (Al-Qaeda 6-7)

  • First crime – warning
  • The second crime – the penalty of stroke (1)
  • The third crime – the penalty of stroke (2)
  • Fourth crime – lack of eligibility

Slow play in the past

Historically, PGA was not good in punishing slow play. Since 1995, only three players have been punished for slow playing at the PGA Tour event. This does not mean that slow play does not happen often, as there are many players who are accused of slow playing.

  • In 1995 during Honda Classic, Glen Day was fined, and during 2017, Zurich Miguel Carpalo and Brian Campbell were punished with one snapshot.
  • Patrick Canaley was accused by Matt Fitzpatrick in 2023, describing this behavior “shame”
  • During the year 2024 Genisis Invitationalism, fans accused Xander Schaufle with Cantlay again
  • In 2012, Kevin Na was in the spotlight for slow playing because of his routine in lining up his shot

Slow playing solutions

In the past, PGA tried to address the case through fines, but they have recently considered punishment for the players Adding strokes to their points. This penalty should be moved alone, slow players who move faster, as the fourth crime can lead to lack of eligibility. Now this has been applied in the past but only twice in the same event. There are also talks about making players carry out devices like Rangefinders. Some people talk about implementing a snapshot similar to what can be found in competitive chess. There will also be a decrease in path sizes starting in 2026.

Criticism of solutions

Every solution has its criticisms. The smaller courses mean less opportunities for shots and strategies. The lead watch can become complex with the number of players in the field. Rangefinders is used by many players today but not exactly a solution to slow down. The main criticism is that it benefits the “straying hurt”, but it will not harm.

What does that mean for the fans and players

This step has a lot of support from both fans and players. For players, this means that the time of play will be reduced to each round significantly. This also means that every round is less tired for them, especially during the warmer months. It is not certain how much, but nothing will be sneezed. For the fans, this means that watching a tour will be more acceptable and explained, and less frustrated in waiting for this player to align his shot.

This step will be a comprehensive improvement of sports even if the playing time is not cut for only thirty minutes.
