MANILA, Philippines — Former police chief Nicolas Torre III makes his return to government as the general manager of the Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Palace confirmed on Friday, December 19.
Asked if President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had appointed Torre as the new MMDA general manager, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the reports.
Torre replaces retired police colonel Procopio Lipana as the MMDA general manager.
The former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief had gained fame from leading efforts to arrest doomsday preacher Apollo Quiboloy, as well as overseeing the turnover of former president Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
This made Torre’s firing from the PNP all the more shocking to many.
Details of Torre’s firing remain murky, but tensions with the National Police Commission had reportedly contributed to his removal as PNP chief.
