A California tech company is bringing humanoid robots into homes with the launch of NEO, a 5’6″ AI assistant from 1X Technologies.
The robot is designed to handle everyday chores like washing dishes, doing laundry, opening doors, and turning off lights. It even learns new tasks over time through software updates, making it smarter the more it’s used. Customers can assign chores and schedule them in advance, and they can monitor NEO’s activity through a mobile app.
NEO uses advanced Audio and Visual Intelligence, which allows it to recognize when it’s being addressed, identify objects, and adapt to new situations.
A built-in facial camera helps it navigate the home and tackle tasks it hasn’t seen before. If NEO encounters something it can’t do, users can schedule a session with a 1X expert to teach the robot how to complete it.
The AI can even identify ingredients, suggest recipes, and adjust its behavior based on user preferences.
The robot is available for $20,000 or a $499 monthly subscription, and customers can choose from tan, gray, or dark brown. Preorders began this week with a $200 deposit.
According to 1X Technologies CEO Bernt Bornich, “NEO closes the gap between imagination and reality, letting us actually ask a robot for help.”
