Morocco and the European Union have reiterated strong commitment to enhance further their long-standing, rich, multidimensional and strategic partnership, building on achievements of the Advanced Status and the Euro-Moroccan Partnership.
The shared resolve to deepen the partnership of equals comes in a joint statement issued Thursday in Brussels following the 15th meeting of Morocco-EU Association Council, held under co-chairmanship of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita.
This meeting was crowned with the adoption by the EU of a historic position endorsing the Moroccan Autonomy for the Sahara as the most feasible solution for the resolution of the Sahara conflict. This is strategic shift and victory for Moroccan diplomacy as the European bloc aligns its position to that of the UN Security Council resolution 2797.
The Union also commended the support and efforts engaged by Al Quds Committee, chaired by King Mohammed, for lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The joint statement hailed the progress made in EU-Morocco cooperation in inclusive & sustainable socio-economic development, trade and investment, research & innovation, green transition, security, justice, culture, mobility and the fight against climate change and violent extremism.
Besides bilateral relations, Morocco and the EU discussed latest developments on the regional & international scene and expressed willingness to join efforts for lasting peace and stability.
Regarding the Middle East conflict, the two partners reaffirmed commitment to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
They stressed the need to protect civilians in Gaza and to ensure rapid, safe & unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians, as well as to allow UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to operate independently and impartially.
They also hailed the Royal initiative for Atlantic African countries and the EU-backed Global Gateway strategy, stressing the need to work together to promote stability, security and prosperity in the Sahel region.
The two partners welcomed the Mediterranean Pact, launched in Barcelona on 28 November 2025, seeking to foster relations between the EU and its southern partners in a spirit of partnership based on mutual trust and shared responsibility.
The Union lauded the constructive and visionary role played by Morocco in regional cooperation initiatives, citing in this regard the “High-Level Retreat on the Future of Euro-Mediterranean Relations”, held in Rabat September 2025.
