Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration has rolled out books donation scheme for Dinshaw Memorial Library, popularly known as D M Library Sakchi (established in 1939).Renovated by the state urban development department at a cost of Rs 12 crore, the decades-old, state-of-the-art learning centre is expected to become functional by February 25.Aiming to increase the library’s holdings, the administration is appealing book-lovers, students, social organisations, and educational institutions to donate books to the library. Books that are of interest to students, competitive examination aspirants, and general readers are welcome at the library.“Books are not only a source of knowledge but are the foundation of the intellectual development of society. To develop the D M Library as a knowledge hub, the support and cooperation of the people is necessary,” DC Karn Satyarthi said on Sunday.The donors’ names will be inscribed on the library plaque as a mark of honour for their contribution. Besides, select rooms and cupboards will be named after notable donors.Donors contributing 10 or more books will get free membership of the library for a year, and those donating 100 or more books will get free life membership.Voluntary donors will be invited to future discussions and meetings concerning the library, and they will be eligible for active participation in literary festivals in the future.DC and the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) Deputy Municipal Corporation (DMC), Krishna Kumar, jointly donated 25 books to the library.On January 16, the DC visited the library and reviewed the progress of the renovation work.During the inspection, Satyarthi issued directions to the JNAC officials to ensure that essential facilities were in place before the opening so that visitors did not experience any trouble.Proper lighting arrangements, books and desks, reading materials, and clean toilets are essential for the library, and these arrangements have to be completed within the stipulated time frame, the DC said.
