Starting on 1 December 2025 and 1 January 2026, significant changes will take place in the management of Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG.
Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of the Top End Vehicle (TEV) Group, joined the Board of Management for Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management as of 1 December 2025.
Schiebe replaces Jörg Burzer, who as of 1 December will assume responsibility for the Board of Management division of Development & Purchasing and the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
In turn, Burzer replaces Markus Schäfer, who is ending his career at Mercedes after 30 highly successful years.
The new head of Mercedes-AMG, replacing Michael Schiebe, is Stefan Weckbach, who comes from VW, where he was the closest advisor to VW CEO Oliver Blume. Weckbach will take over the position as head of AMG starting 1 July 2026. Weckbach will also become Head of the Top End Vehicle (TEV) Group. Until then, Michael Schiebe will serve as interim head of Mercedes-AMG.
At 49 years old, Stefan Weckbach will report directly to the new CTO, Jörg Burzer. At one point, Weckbach was considered the successor to Oliver Blume at the Porsche brand. However, the Porsche Supervisory Board ultimately opted for Michael Leiters, former McLaren CEO. The decision of the Porsche Supervisory Board helps explain, to some extent, why Weckbach decided to leave the VW Group.
Weckbach faces an immense challenge, as he will be responsible for launching the first standalone electric AMG model that has no counterpart in the Mercedes lineup. This refers to the production version of the Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept, based on the new AMG.EA electric architecture, as well as its SUV variant.
Jörg Burzer has been a member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG since 2019 and a member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG since December 2021. He is currently responsible for Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management. In this role, he manages the global production network with over 30 locations for vehicles, powertrains, and batteries, as well as worldwide logistics processes. Previously, he held various international management positions within the company. He began his career at the former DaimlerChrysler AG in 1999 after graduating with a degree in engineering from the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg and earning a doctorate in engineering.

Michael Schiebe has been Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of the Top End Vehicle (TEV) Group since March 2023. He has been with the Group since 2004, beginning his career at the former Daimler AG while still a student. He has held various management positions in Germany and abroad, including CEO of Mercedes-Benz Luxembourg and Head of Sales for Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars in Germany. From 2020 to 2023, he reported to CEO Ola Källenius as Chief of Staff and headed the Corporate Office of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

Markus Schäfer has been a member of the Board of Management since May 2019 and has headed the Development & Purchasing division. Since December 2021, he has served as Chief Technology Officer. In this role, he has been responsible at Group level for the holistic development process of Mercedes-Benz Cars as well as purchasing. Markus Schäfer began his career in 1990 through the international junior management program. In the following decades, he held numerous management positions in Germany and abroad, including Plant Manager in Egypt, CEO of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa (USA), Head of Production Planning, Divisional Board Member for Mercedes-Benz Cars Production & Supply Chain, and Chief Operating Officer.
After a career of more than 30 years at Mercedes-Benz, Markus Schäfer announced on his LinkedIn account that as of 1 December 2025 he is the co-founder of a new company called Russell AI Labs, which focuses on building and backing next-generation intelligent technologies.
