Despite the absence of LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers are off to a great start to the season, sitting at 4-2 and No. 4 in the Western Conference standings. Most recently, the Lakers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 117-112 behind 44 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists by Luka Doncic, and 21 points, four rebounds, and four assists from Austin Reaves. It’ll be interesting to see how the Lakers’ two guards produce once James is back in the picture, but for now, the 1-2 punch of Doncic and Reaves has been quite effective for L.A.
The Miami Heat, meanwhile, are 3-2 on the season, playing a new, free-flowing style of offense that is less reliant on screen-setting and more focused on getting paint touches. The early results have been promising for Miami, even despite the fact that the team is coming off a 107-101 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs. Despite the loss, star big man Bam Adebayo performed well, scoring 31 points to go with 10 rebounds. Former No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins chipped in 24 points and six rebounds in the loss.
