The 2025-26 NFL season has come to an end for the Houston Texans after losing the divisional playoff game against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The Houston team was playing for the opportunity to appear in the AFC Championship, coming off its historic 30-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Wild Card matchup last week.
At the end of the first quarter, the Texans trailed the Patriots 7-3, with Ka’imi Fairbairn scoring a field goal after the Patriots scored a touchdown. Despite Christian Kirk scoring a touchdown in the second quarter, the divide grew larger as the Patriots scored an additional two touchdowns, ending the half 21-10.
The Texans held the Patriots scoreless in the third quarter and added a pair of field goals to pull within five, ending the third at 21-16. After an additional touchdown by the Patriots in the fourth quarter, the game ended with the Texans losing 28-16.
The divisional playoff game, played in Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., proved to be a tough game for the Texans as they faced a Patriots team tied for the best record in the NFL, on the road and in the snow.
Both of the Texans’ previous playoff appearances in Gillette Stadium had also been unsuccessful.
The Patriots now go on to face the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game.
