A 30-year-old Bangladeshi Hindu man was allegedly run over and killed by occupants of a vehicle after they tried to escape without paying for fuel, police said. The incident occurred early Friday at a petrol pump in Rajbari district. The victim, Ripon Saha, worked at the fuel station. Police said a black SUV took fuel worth around Tk 5,000 before attempting to flee. When Saha tried to block the vehicle, he was run over and died on the spot. The SUV was later seized, and its owner, Abul Hashem, a Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader, along with the driver, was arrested. Authorities said a murder case will be filed and investigations are underway. The incident comes amid reports of increasing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, though the motive behind this case is still being examined.
