VIRGINIA BEACH — Good Samaritans rescued a woman from a vehicle after she drove through a boat landing between a pair of Shore Drive restaurants and crashed into the water Friday afternoon.
Virginia Beach police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 3300 block of Shore Drive at 1:17 p.m. First responders on the scene arrived to see the vehicle in the water between The Back Deck and Bubba’s Seafood Restaurant.
Video of the incident posted to social media shows at least four people who ventured into the water to help pull the driver from the vehicle. They can be seen attempting to break the front and back windows, as the car continues to sink and onlookers watch in horror.
In the video, one man climbs through the back window and is shown throwing items out of the back. Later, the front of the vehicle tips down into the water and the man inside pulls the driver out just at the vehicle is fully submerged.
Both the driver and the Samaritans were taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.
