Locked away in a Maximum security prison, the infamous Killer Clown, Mary Beth Layton, aka Lil Miss Cleaver, is about to make a prison break that no one will forget.
In a new exclusive interview on Blazing Minds, I got a chance to ask actor Jack Granville a few questions about the film ‘Cleavers 3: Maximum Cleavage’, which has been selected to play at Horror-on-Sea on Friday, 16th January at 20:00hrs.
Q. You play McLain in the upcoming horror ‘Cleavers 3 Maximum Cleavage’ which has been selected to play at Horror-on-Sea Film Festival. What can we expect from the film?
A. It’s the supervillain team-up film you’ve always wanted. If you like Con Air (1997), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Suicide Squad (2021), you’re going to love this!
Q. How did you get involved in the film and what attracted you to the character when you read the script?
A. I heard that MJ was getting pretty much EVERYONE he knew into this film, and yet he hadn’t asked me… so I gently nudged him about it and, as luck would have it, McLain was available (he was originally meant to be played by a Patron, whom the character is named after, but unfortunately they couldn’t make it – their loss was my gain!)

Q. What sort of preparation did you do for the role?
A. Watched back some prison films like The Shawshank Redemption (1994) – corrupt prison officers are two-a-penny in film, so I had plenty of inspiration to draw from. Also had to scrub up on a suitably Deep South twang.
Q. Are there any elements of the character which you feel reflect some of your own personality?
A. I almost feel like McLain is the opposite of me in many ways – he’s a real a**hole. Perhaps the closest to me is the confidence: I’m relatively confident, but he is next level arrogant and uses that to mask his shortfalls.
Q. Did you make any changes to the character from how it was written?
A. Yes. The middle-parting for one thing, but also the ad-libs – more on that later! I definitely brought an energy to the character which MJ wasn’t expecting, but he liked it so much that he added extra bits in on the fly. We will never forget ‘pretty prison perm’.

Q. What were some of your favourite moments during filming?
A. Ben (Agent Kale) and I had way too much fun as our characters sparred during takes. It’s not often you can leave MJ speechless at the end of the scene, but we did that consistently by the ‘offers’ we’d make. Our alternative prison bus narration, along with exiting the maximum security area, will stay with me for a long time (even if they aren’t in the final cut)
Q. Did you experience any issues during filming?
A. On one long night, I had a monologue with quite a few similar lines. For some reason, my brain couldn’t quite click with it and it took several takes to get right. If the cast got frustrated, they didn’t let it show, and I felt very supported in that difficult moment.
Q. Your character has an unusual haircut, have you ever considered growing this out permanently?
A. NO. If the role is good enough, sure, but the middle-parting is not the one for me.

Q. What makes Cleavers 3: Maximum Cleavage stand out as something different in the horror genre?
A. The horror is actually more the world in which this film resides – yes, there will be horrific gore and other elements, but it feels more like a prison comedy or superhero team up at times.
Q. What do you hope people take away after watching the film?
A. Pure unadulterated enjoyment. Embrace the silly slaughter – send in the clowns!
