In a new exclusive interview on Blazing Minds, I got the chance to ask Segment Director SN Sibley a few questions about his segment of ‘Exhibition of Evil’ called ‘Salt’, which will have its World Premiere at The Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Saturday, 24th January at 17:30hrs.
Q. You directed the segment Salt as part of the feature film Exhibition of Evil which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival. Can you tell us what we can expect from your segment?
A. Something a bit different no gore, no violence just a great character piece. This is the first script that I’ve directed and not wrote.
Q. What attracted you to the script which was written by Georgia Brawn?
A. It was so good and tight. I was so grateful to be given the opportunity by Sam Mason Bell (who also shot the film) from Trash Arts to be part of the anthology. Georgia was on set and that was very helpful. I wanted to remain faithful to what she wrote and having her there was class to be able ask questions if need. Georgia’s a very talented and would defo love to adapt another one of her works.
Q. What were some of your influences for the look and style of the film?
A. I wanted to give it the feel of 70’s British TV drama look. With it been character and dialogue driven I didn’t want to go to chaotic with the camera work keep it grounded. Working with Sam on numerous projects he understands the way I work and adapts quickly to the style I intend to try.

Q. What were some of your favourite moments during filming?
A. Favourite moments was working with such a talented duo of Caroline Oakes and Simon Berry. It was the first I’d worked with Simon, I’d worked on many of Trash Arts films which he starred and always wanted to find the right project came along. Sam cast him which was perfecto and he delivered the goods. He also cast Caroline who Id never meet and wowza what a talent. She brought so much to the character and like Simon very easy to direct and bringing conviction and believability to the performances. Every second seeing them act was amazing.
Q. Did you experience any issues during filming?
A. Nothing everything went smooth. We managed to shoot the whole thing in five hours. There was only me and Sam on crew. He did camera and I did the sound we moved fast and nothing caused issues. Was 111% a blast.
Q. What makes Salt stand out as something different in the horror genre?
A. Nothing, it’s aim was to be segment of a horror anthology and it feels like that. I’d say it like a EC comic tale.
Q. What do you hope people take away after watching the film?
A. Don’t cheat or lie cos the truth will come out eventually and you have to face the consequences.
FOFO as they say.

Q. Do you have any other projects which you are currently working on?
A. Wow yeah finishing two features at the moment Mylar which is fantasy horror found footage film as couple of scenes to be shot. Hoping to have it ready for May. Second is a fantasy sci fi epic called Warriors from the Beyond which stated out as Falcon the Slayer which will be ready for Horror-on-Sea 2027.
Q. If someone was looking to direct their own film what advice would you give them?
A. What’s stopping you, grab a camera, grab a phone, have fun and create. The only failure is not trying. Experiment find your style that wont happen with your first film push your yourself and your limits.
