Excitement peaks as announcement of Kerala State Film Awards 2025 begins

Megastar Mammootty who iconised Kodumon Potty in the critically-acclaimed film ‘Bramayugam’ won this year’s Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. The award was announced by Minister for Culture and Films Saji Cherian during a ceremony held at Ramanilayam in Thrissur in the presence of the seven-member jury led by Prakash Raj.

Chidambaram received the award for Best Director, while ‘Manjummel Boys’ has been adjudged Best Film.  Shamla Hamza who starred in ‘Feminichi Fathima’, which won several awards at the last year’s International Film Festival of Kerala, received the award for Best Actress. The film’s director Fazil Muhammed received the award for Best Debutant Director at this year’s state awards. Meanwhile, ‘Premalu’ has been adjudged Best Popular Film. ‘ARM’ directed by Jithin Lal won the award for Best Visual Effects.

Sayanora, who recently dubbed for Kalyani Priyadarshan in the film ‘Lokah’ was adjudged the Best Dubbing Artist for her work in Mohanlal-directorial ‘Barroz’. ‘Paradise’ directed by Prasanna Vithanage won the Special Jury Award. Sameera Saneesh was adjuged the Best Costume Designer for her work in ‘Rekhachitram’. Ajayan Chalissery received the Best Art Direction award for ‘Manjummel Boys’.

Christo Xavier received the award for Best Background music in ‘Bramayugam’, while Sushin Shyam has been adjudged Best Music Composer. Vedan received the award for Best Lyrics for the song ‘Veerpu Thunnitta Kuppayam’. 

Lijomol Jose receieved Best Character Award (Female) for her work in ‘Nadanna Sambhavam’, while Siddharth Bharathan and Sushin Shyam shared the award for Best Character (Male). Pennu Paat Tharakal by C S Meenakshi won the award for Best Book. 

Directors Ranjan Pramod and Jibu Jacob chaired the two sub-committees of the preliminary jury, while Bhagyalakshmi, Gayatri Asokan, Nithin Lukose, and screenwriter Santhosh Echikkanam were among the members.
