The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that a total of 2,632 Egyptians have been repatriated from Libya since the beginning of the year.
The returnees include 1,132 individuals from Tripoli and the western region, and 1,500 from Benghazi and the east.
According to a ministry statement, Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Ambassador Haddad Abdel-Tawab El-Gohary received a flight from Tripoli carrying 131 Egyptian citizens.
The statement highlighted the intensive efforts made by the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli, working with the relevant Libyan authorities and the concerned departments within Egypt’s Foreign Ministry to secure their release and facilitate their return.
The ministry also urged Egyptian nationals to adhere to legal procedures for travel and entry into neighboring countries, and warned against illegal migration networks that endanger their lives.
