WANA (Jan 28) – Egypt’s Foreign Minister has held separate phone conversations with Iran’s foreign minister and the United States’ special envoy to the region, underscoring the importance of diplomacy and the need to create conditions for renewed dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
According to Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty spoke with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, and Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy to West Asia, amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing political uncertainty.
During the calls, Abdelatty stressed the urgency of intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore calm, warning that failure to do so could push the region into new cycles of instability. He emphasized that all parties should prioritize political solutions and work toward sustainable agreements that support regional security and stability.
The Egyptian foreign minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington and creating a conducive environment for resuming talks.
He noted that renewed dialogue could pave the way for a comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear issue—one that takes into account the interests of all sides and contributes to security and stability at both regional and international levels.
These contacts reflect Egypt’s broader diplomatic role in seeking to contain regional crises and facilitate communication between key international and regional actors.
