The much anticipated re-release of Baahubali The Epic has taken the box office by storm with a record breaking opening day. The film grossed Rs 11.75 crore approximately at the Indian box office on its first day, which includes Rs 1.25 crore from Thursday previews. Combined with overseas collections of Rs 5.25 crore, the worldwide total stands at an impressive Rs 17 crore.
Record Breaking Re Release Opening In India
The re-release has created history by registering the biggest opening for any re-released film in India. This achievement places it far ahead of the previous record holder Gabbar Singh, which had collected around Rs 5.75 crore approximately on its first day during its re-release. The Telugu versions contributed the majority of the business, while the Hindi and Tamil dubbed versions opened to comparatively modest numbers.
The territorial breakdown shows strong performance across multiple regions. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana led with Rs 7.75 crore, with Nizam alone contributing Rs 3.75 crore and Andhra region adding Rs 3 crore. Karnataka brought in Rs 1.45 crore, while Tamil Nadu and Kerala together collected Rs 0.95 crore. The rest of India contributed Rs 1.60 crore to the total.
Strong Overseas Performance Led By USA
The overseas collections of Rs 5.25 crore, equivalent to USD 600,000, came primarily from the United States market. The film had previews on Wednesday and Thursday in USA, which helped drive strong initial numbers. The United States alone contributed USD 475,000, while the rest of the world markets added USD 125,000 to the global total.
Unlike typical Telugu re-releases that are largely one day events and fizzle out quickly without any sort of legs, Baahubali The Epic is expected to play differently and sustain longer at the box office.
Can It Help Baahubali 2 Reclaim The Crown From Pushpa 2
There is an interesting question about whether this re-release could help Baahubali 2 reclaim its position as the highest grossing film in India. Pushpa 2 ended about Rs 30 crore higher than Baahubali 2 in India. However, since this re-release is an amalgamation of both Baahubali and Baahubali 2, the business will have to be split and added to each film separately.
Therefore, the re-release needs to earn around Rs 60 crore to help Baahubali 2 overtake Pushpa 2. That will not be an easy task. For that to happen, the Hindi version will need to pick up significantly in the coming days and sustain well at the box office.
