The film is set against the backdrop of World War II in 1940, marking Tommy Shelby’s return to Birmingham after his departure in the series finale. Creator Steven Knight shared insights with Empire magazine regarding this chapter, saying it represents the last few chapters of a long novel where everything gets rounded off.
