Channing Tatum is known for comedy and rom-com roles, though in recent times he’s tried his hand at diverse characters, from Zoë Kravitz’s Blink Twice, to portraying Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, and a twisty criminal turn in Roofman. Nonetheless, the actor has done enough action movies to keep his filmography distinct. Now one of them just got more accessible.
White House Down is coming to free service Tubi this February. The movie follows Tatum as a Capitol policeman, who leaps into action when the White House is seized. He races against time to save his daughter and protect the American President from a group of terrorists. The movie has a similar plot to Gerard Butler’s Olympus Has Fallen, which was even released in the exact same year. However, White House Down has a slightly lighter tone and equally slick action.
Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film is a light-hearted action romp, garnering 52 percent from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and slightly higher, 62 percent, from the audience. Tatum was praised for his stunts and athletic charm. The buddy-cop vibe he shares with Jamie Foxx is also one of the highlights. The cast also includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, Joey King, and James Woods. Despite star power, the movie failed to break even, earning $205.4 million worldwide on a $150 million budget.
Where Can You See Channing Tatum Next?
The actor is booked and busy with several projects, including Wingmen, The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race, and Dance Partner. He’ll next be seen in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday as Gambit from Deadpool and Wolverine, among other projects. Meanwhile, you can check out Roofman on streaming. The critically acclaimed film sees Tatum as former soldier and professional thief Jeffrey Manchester, who finds a hideout inside a Toys “R” Us after escaping from prison. His double life starts to unravel when he falls for a divorced mom, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat-and-mouse as his past catches up. Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the 87% Rotten Tomatoes-rated movie made only $33.5 million at the box office on a $19 million budget. But it has dominated various top 10 charts since its streaming debut.
White House Down will drop on Tubi on February 1. Check out the trailer above and stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
