The calf-strain injury bug has now bitten the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
Mobley, 24, suffered the injury in Cleveland’s win over the Washington Wizards on Friday night. After experiencing tightness in the area post-game, an MRI on Saturday revealed a Grade 1 strain.
The former third-overall pick in 2021 has missed just one game this season, averaging a career-high 19.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.6 blocks. In Friday’s victory, Mobley racked up 23 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in 36 minutes of action.
He ranks second on the Cavaliers in scoring and steals behind Donovan Mitchell, while leading the team in rebounding and blocks.
Cleveland is 15-11 this season, good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers return to action on Sunday, hosting the Charlotte Hornets.
As for Mobley, the one-time all-star is the latest to suffer a calf injury, on what’s become a laundry list of players dealing with the lingering issue. Others to miss time with calf injuries this season include Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Davis, and Ja Morant, among others.
