FORT COLLINS – Shelton Bynum has been elevated to lead Colorado State football’s strength and conditioning staff by coach Jim Mora, with the addition of Tim Hicks rounding out the staff.
The team has already begun winter conditioning to prepare for the opening of spring camp on March 8.
Bynum was the top assistant in strength and conditioning at Connecticut the last two seasons of the four he was on the Huskies’ staff. He previously has led staffs for sports at Stephens College (2020-21) and Livingstone College (2018-19). He will be the director of football strength and conditioning.
“Shelton and I have a four-year working history, and in that time I’ve seen consistency, growth and accountability. The players respect him and respond to him,” Mora said. “He is a role model as a coach, a father and a husband. There is no one more equipped to maintain the culture and standards of this program.”
Hicks joins the staff as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with some familiarity having served in the same role at UConn in 2023. Prior to CSU, he spent the past two years as the associate director of performance at UCLA. Hicks started his collegiate climb at Washington State in 2021 as an assistant director of performance and strength and conditioning. He has also worked with the German National Team and the Toronto Raptors in his career, as well as in the private sector with world renowned Sports Performance Company “EXOS”. Overall, has worked with 100+ athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB, and college players preparing for the NFL Combine. In his time working with athletes preparing for the Combine, Hicks has helped more than 35 NFL Draft picks, 10 of whom were selected in the first round.
