On Nov 1, her birthday Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is on top of the world. “Life has been very very kind. By the grace of God, I’ve everything that I ever wanted. My perception of success has changed over the years. Ever since my daughter Aaradhya was born, my entire world revolves around her. Watching one’s child grow into a young woman is the greatest joy life can bring to any mother. Abhishek and I are blessed to have Aaradhya in our lives. Someone up there has answered all my prayers.”

Birthday girl Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on her dream role: “I would love to play Lata Mangeshkar”

This writer asked Aishwarya to recall her most memorable birthday. “My birthday in Agra in 2008 was just tooooooo special. This was my first birthday after marriage and therefore a very special occasion. I was in a very happy place. And I don’t mean just Agra. Just being with people who mean so much to me makes my life complete. God has been kind. There’s great fulfillment in love and in being loved.”

The 2008 birthday was extra-special for Aishwarya. “I was very excited about doing the Taj Mahal film with Ben Kingsley. On the first day of shooting The Last Legion with him, he walked up to me he said, ‘I’ve this idea.’ And he told me about the Shah Jehan-Mumtaz Mahal film that he’d like to do. You know very well how many Taj Mahal scripts had come my way. I told Ben there have been many occasions when this subject has come to me. But there was something exceptionally interesting about the way he approached the subject. And yes, the whole process of discussing the subject with him was participative. After The Last Legion, I kind of put it in the back of my mind. But then in 2008 he confirmed it was on. Sadly it never got made. One of those lost professional opportunities that have happened to me. Another role I missed playing was that of Gayatri Devi in J P Dutta’s proposed project.”

Her dream role? “I would love to play Lata Mangeshkar.”
