KUWAIT: Kuwait hosted the opening of the 104th Arab Media Committee session and the 22nd Executive Bureau meeting of Arab Information Ministers on Tuesday. During his opening remarks, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information Dr Nasser Muhaisen stated that Kuwait welcomes Arab media delegations to the country, describing it as their second home, as they participate in the regular meetings of the Permanent Arab Media Committee. He emphasized that these meetings are vital for maintaining Arab media’s global impact, advancing joint Arab causes and strengthening media solidarity.
Muhaisen emphasized that, given the region’s exceptional challenges, the meetings must focus on strengthening cooperation and partnerships to build a responsive Arab media sector able to adapt to rapid changes. He stressed the need for a realistic and strategic vision that safeguards professional values and credibility, while contributing to stability and sustainable development across Arab countries. The minister also called for expanding cooperation across all media sectors to create more joint opportunities and initiatives that serve Arab causes and meet the aspirations of Arab countries and citizens. He expressed hope that the discussions would lead to a qualitative shift in the performance of Arab media institutions, enhancing their effectiveness and impact and wished success to all participants.

In his turn, Assistant Secretary-General of the League for Media and Communication Ambassador Ahmed Khattabi praised the State of Kuwait for hosting the meetings of the Arab Media Committee, held in preparation for the 22nd session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, saying that the move reflects Kuwait’s long-standing commitment to supporting the Arab media system and strengthening joint Arab media cooperation.
He also noted the close follow-up by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to the outcomes of the 55th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, which was held at the League’s headquarters. The session included a series of intensive meetings of committees and working groups that resulted in several recommendations submitted for review and approval, ahead of being referred to the Executive Office.
Khattabi noted that the recommendations aim to keep pace with the qualitative transformation of media-related issues and respond to the need for development, modernization and diversification in Arab media work, stressing the importance of preserving Arab values and cultural identity, while aligning media efforts with development and environmental priorities. He emphasized that Arab media must continue to address key regional causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, including ensuring the safety and protection of Palestinian journalists.
He reaffirmed the importance of adapting to rapid changes in the media landscape and modern technologies to enhance professional performance and innovation across the Arab media sector. The committee is set to review arrangements for launching the general program for selecting Rabat as the Arab Media Capital for 2026, as well as preparations for the 10th edition of the Arab Media Excellence Award. This session represents a key milestone in coordinating Arab positions and shaping unified visions that contribute to developing Arab media discourse and strengthening its regional and international presence amid current challenges.
