While the Bulls are 0-3 ATS as favorites in MAC play, I’m still laying the points with Buffalo on Saturday against Akron.
Yes, they haven’t come close to covering as big favorites yet, winning by three against Kent State as 24-point favorites, one against Eastern Michigan as 10-point favorites, and seven against UMass as 16-point favorites.
However, Buffalo lost the turnover battle in all three matchups. The game against UMass was super flukey, including a 77-yard touchdown pass and a 90-yard touchdown run from the typically in-explosive Minutemen. The Bulls outgained the Minutemen by nearly 170 yards last week.
What this all says is that the Bulls likely could have easily covered last week. Buffalo is due for some positive turnover luck.
Meanwhile, Akron has lost its three MAC games by 42, 13, and 14, respectively. The Zips can’t stop the run, ranking 109th nationally in Defensive Line Yards. Buffalo should have plenty of success running the ball.
However, I also expect Buffalo to hit the big plays. Akron ranks sub-100th nationally in Quality Drives allowed, but it also ranks sub-100th in Big Plays allowed. The Bulls should be able to move the ball methodically or throw it downfield.
The Bulls need quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson to take over. He’s starting to re-find his form after returning from injury, throwing for 675 yards with five touchdowns over the past two games.
I think Buffalo’s offense is due for a big day. The Bulls hammered Akron on the road last year, yet we’re laying under double digits at home in this spot.
I’m confident in Pete Lembo in this situation to lay the hammer.
Pick: Buffalo -9.5 (-110, bet365)
