The world may be heading toward a dangerous demographic mismatch, global leaders warned at the World Economic Forum in Davos. World Bank chief Ajay Banga and tech leader Nandan Nilekani revealed that while 1.2 billion young people are set to enter the global workforce in the coming decade, only 400 million jobs are expected to be created. This massive shortfall could fuel economic stress, migration pressures and political instability. For countries like India, with a young population seen as a strength, the warning is especially significant. Leaders emphasised that job creation must move faster than population growth, driven by skilling, technology, digital public infrastructure and private sector innovation. The Davos message was blunt: demographics alone are not destiny, and without urgent action, the global youth dividend could quickly turn into a global liability.
