Yangwang has made a habit of grabbing headlines and records for itself. Its Yangwang U9 Xtreme became the fastest production car in the world just a few weeks ago (original article here). The U9 Xtreme has now shown that its no straight line specialist by becoming the quickest EV around the Nurburgring.
We are dedicated to pushing the limits of what can be achieved through technology, and the Nürburgring is such a legendary challenge for cars and drivers that it is only natural for our engineers to pursue their dreams there. I congratulate the entire team on this phenomenal achievement. The limited-edition U9 Xtreme has proven that it is not only the world’s fastest car in a straight line, but also a vehicle with the performance and dynamic qualities necessary to break lap records on a circuit with a wide variety of corners

First Under Seven
Yangwang has just announced that on 22 August 2025, the U9X lapped the 20,8 km Nürburgring circuit in 6 min 59,157 sec. As a result it is the first production EV to dip under the seven-minute barrier.Moritz Kranz was the man behind the wheel for the record-breaking lap. The GT4, GT3, and LMP3 racer has logged almost 10 000 laps of the challenging Nordschleife circuit.
He said: “The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most demanding track, and our lap time is a testament to the development skills of BYD and Yangwang. Without their intense work to balance a high-powered EV platform with the difficult demands of the chassis set-up, this great lap time would not have been possible.”
Most Powerful
The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is reportedly the most powerful car that will go on sale to the public. Although that date as has not yet been made clear. This ultra-high performance version of the U9 is still undergoing testing. The power output is a claimed 2 220 kW (over 3 000 hp). That output makes it far more powerful than any of the current hypercars on offer today.
