The shooting Saturday afternoon at Church’s Texas Chicken near the intersection of East Princess Anne Road and Park Avenue was the result of an attempted robbery, police said.
Larry Jackson, 32 and a Hampton native, is accused of shooting two employees at the restaurant at 2308 East Princess Anne Rd. before stealing from the register’s till, according to an arrest warrant filed with the General District Court.
Jackson then stole a vehicle and fled the scene.
Police found Sherod Rogers and a co-worker suffering from gunshot wounds. Rogers, a 47-year-old Norfolk resident, died in a hospital.
The second victim, 53, was hospitalized. Police have not released her identity.

Jackson, whom is described in the arrest warrant as homeless, is charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, robbery, grand larceny and use of a firearm. He is being held without bond in the Norfolk City Jail.
The Church’s Chicken will be closed until Feb. 11, according to a sign posted on the door. Mourners have left flowers in and around the building.
