Austrian authorities announced the arrest of an Austrian national suspected of links to the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (ISIS) and of involvement in plans to carry out large-scale terrorist attacks inside Austria. The operation was conducted in close cooperation with Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
Austria’s State Secretary for the Protection of the Constitution, Jörg Leichtfried, along with the Director General of Public Security, Franz Ruf, praised the intelligence support provided by the DGST, stressing that this cooperation played a decisive role in the success of the operation and the ongoing investigations.
In a statement issued by the Austrian Ministry of the Interior and relayed by local media, authorities highlighted that coordination between Austria’s State Protection and Intelligence Directorate and its Moroccan counterpart significantly accelerated investigative efforts and helped identify the nature of the potential threat. This, they noted, once again underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating cross-border terrorism.
According to official information, investigations revealed indications of concrete attack plans, specifically targeting Austrian security forces, prompting swift security intervention to neutralize the threat.
A search of the suspect’s residence resulted in the seizure of several electronic devices containing propaganda material linked to ISIS, as well as video recordings produced by the suspect, including one in which he appears to pledge allegiance to the terrorist organization.
Austrian authorities confirmed that analysis of the seized digital material is ongoing and that investigations continue to determine possible network extensions and identify any additional individuals connected to the case.

Les autorités autrichiennes ont annoncé l’interpellation d’un ressortissant autrichien soupçonné d’être lié à l’organisation terroriste « État islamique » et impliqué dans des projets d’attentats de grande envergure sur le territoire autrichien. Cette opération a été menée en étroite coopération avec la Direction générale de la surveillance du territoire (DGST) du Maroc.
Le secrétaire d’État chargé de la protection de la Constitution, Jörg Leichtfried, ainsi que le directeur général de la Sécurité publique, Franz Ruf, ont salué le soutien sécuritaire et de renseignement apporté par la DGST, soulignant que cette coopération a été déterminante pour la réussite de l’opération et des investigations en cours.
Dans un communiqué du ministère autrichien de l’Intérieur, relayé par les médias locaux, les autorités ont indiqué que la coordination entre la Direction autrichienne de la protection de l’État et du renseignement et son homologue marocaine a permis d’accélérer les enquêtes et d’identifier la nature de la menace potentielle, confirmant ainsi l’importance de la coopération internationale dans la lutte contre le terrorisme transfrontalier.
Selon les autorités, les investigations ont mis en évidence des indices de projets d’attaques concrets visant notamment les forces de sécurité autrichiennes, ce qui a nécessité une intervention sécuritaire rapide afin de prévenir toute menace.
La perquisition du domicile du suspect a conduit à la saisie de plusieurs supports électroniques contenant des matériels de propagande de l’organisation « État islamique », ainsi que des enregistrements vidéo réalisés par l’intéressé, dont l’un le montre prêtant allégeance au groupe terroriste.
Les autorités autrichiennes ont précisé que l’analyse des éléments saisis se poursuit et que les enquêtes restent en cours afin d’identifier d’éventuelles ramifications et d’autres personnes impliquées
