Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot asserted on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the importance of intensifying efforts to contain tensions and work toward de-escalation, in order to prevent the region from sliding into new waves of instability.
The remarks came during a phone call received by the Egyptian foreign minister from his French counterpart to discuss the latest regional developments.
Official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khallaf said that the call addressed regional developments and ways to reduce escalation across the region.
Abdelatty emphasized the importance of pursuing political and diplomatic solutions.
He also highlighted the need to create conducive conditions to resume dialogue between the US and Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear file, in a manner that would lead to a comprehensive settlement that takes into account the interests of all parties and supports security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
The spokesman added that the call also discussed developments in Sudan, where Abdelatty underscored the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire.
He stressed the necessity of launching an inclusive political process led by Sudan and highlighted the need to establish safe humanitarian corridors to ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm position in support of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, as well as preserving its national institutions.
He also briefed his French counterpart on Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quadripartite Mechanism.
