A new nano-sized drug carrier that finds bone tumors and releases treatment exactly where it’s needed is here to improve the precision and comfort of cancer therapy. Designed by a team of researchers from China, this smart nanotherapy tool, LipoNCs@pGSDMB, responds to the reactive oxidative species-rich environment of a bone metastasis. It is based on a fusogenic lipid bilayer that can bypass conventional uptake pathways and fuse directly with tumor cell membranes, delivering the drug payload directly into the cytosol—the water-based fluid in which cells’ internal components live.
