Mercedes-AMG has a great legacy of producing wild coupes. Cars such as the CLK Black Series and SLS have been objects of desires since they debuted. Now another model will be added to that list in the shape of a CLE-based Mythos Edition that is currently undergoing testing in Sweden. Mercedes released the images you see above to give us just a teaser of what we can expect of its new coupe. It will be the second model in the highly exclusive Mercedes-Benz Mythos series, which stands for a range of exclusive, limited-edition collector vehicles. After the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed – a radical, open two-seater without a roof or windshield – thrilled as the first model, the eagerly awaited second model is now emerging on the horizon.

Race Inspired
The CLE-based Mythos Edition has the hallmarks of a real track-focused machine. The obvious changes are a massive new grille, bonnet hump and additional cooling air ducts and curtains. In addition, we also spy widened front and rear wheel arches covering wider wheels. Some reports suggest that the car also boasts a carbon-fibre roof. In addition we see a large, fixed wing mounted to the bootlid. Notably, there are quad tailpipes, a V8 signature. Oh, and there is a roll cage fitted as well… interesting.

Likely Powertrain
Mercedes’ press material makes no mention of any powertrain info. The basis of the test mule is the current generation CLE Coupe. The hottest version of that car is the CLE53, which is powered by a turbocharged inline-six. But Merc fans have been salivating at the thought of a twin-turbocharged 4,0-litre V8 shoehorned into the engine bay of the sleek coupe.
Understandably, there are no power figures to be found anywhere, but we’d be surprised if the upcoming performance coupe has less than 450 kW/800 N.m, giving it a significant advantage over the BMW M4 CSL. Perhaps AMG will even carry over the flat-plane crank that we last ‘saw’ in the GT Black Series. Those power outputs should allow the car to blitz the 0-100 km/h sprint in under four seconds and drive to a top speed in excess of 300 km/h.
