Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday highlighted India’s ambition to emerge as a global centre for ammunition production while inaugurating the Medium Caliber Ammunition Facility at the Solar Defence and Aerospace Plant in Nagpur. He said India had long faced ammunition shortages that restricted the effective use of modern military equipment, impacting operational readiness. Calling such constraints unacceptable for a strong and self-reliant nation, Singh emphasised the importance of boosting indigenous defence manufacturing. He said expanding domestic ammunition capacity would strengthen national security, ensure uninterrupted supply to the armed forces and reduce reliance on imports. The new facility, he added, marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards defence self-sufficiency and strategic preparedness.
