Is A$AP Rocky’s artistry being overshadowed by his own pettiness? That is the question Charlamagne Tha God is posing after the rapper finally released his highly anticipated project, Don’t Be Dumb.
During a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, the host got into Rocky’s new track “Stole Ya Flow,” which has everyone on social media convinced he’s taking aim at Drake.
When they played a snippet of the song, Charlamagne seemed confused about why it was a big deal until co-host Lauren LoRosa broke it down by saying, “Well, he’s talking about a rapper with a BBL, he’s talking about stealing a flow, and stealing somebody’s girl.
The mention of cosmetic surgery definitely caught Charlamagne by surprise, as he responded by asking, “Drake had a BBL?!” His co-hosts explained that the lyrics were a nod to the wild rumors that went viral during Drake’s back-and-forth with Kendrick Lamar. While the room was laughing, Charlamagne got serious about how Rocky is being discussed these days.
Every time I hear something about ASAP Rocky’s music, it’s him dissing Drake,” he told his listeners. “Like, does anybody go, ‘Yo, ASAP’s music is just good’? I don’t never hear that anymore. I don’t ever hear, like, ‘Yo, Rocky just put a hot record.’ All I hear is, ‘Yo, Rocky dissed Drake.’ And then somebody will play and you’ll listen and be like, ‘Okay?’”
The bars on the song definitely go for the jugular, seemingly touching on the history between Drake and Rihanna, who now has a family with Rocky. On the track, Rocky raps, “First you stole my flow; so I stole yo’ b*tch. N****s getting BBLs, lucky we don’t body shame. Throwing dirt on Rocky name, turn around and copy game.”
While Rocky previously suggested in an interview that we all know who he is talking about, it seems Charlamagne is looking for more than just a feud.
In his eyes, the “Fashion Killa” might need to prove he can still craft a record that doesn’t rely on the drama of a former friend-turned-foe to get people talking.
