El Basha explained that the Arab Theatre Festival anticipates current trends in Arab theatre, helping theatre-makers to develop Arab theatre at the level of texts, directing approaches, and all elements of theatrical production. He noted that theatre has a strong presence on the global theatre map.
In statements to “Sharjah 24,” El Basha added that Arab theatre holds a distinguished position, as reflected in the productions presented. He said: “I have staged performances in France, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, and the United States, and what I have observed is that Arab theatre is not distant from these theatres. Some productions, due to their substantial resources, may be more visually appealing than those in venues with more modest budgets, but in terms of texts, themes, treatments, and directorial visions, we are not far removed from theatre elsewhere in the world.”
