NORFOLK — A man has been charged in connection with a homicide involving arson that happened over four years ago.
On Jan. 7, a grand jury indicted Terry T. Lawson, a 67-year-old Norfolk resident, on charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and arson, according to Norfolk police. Members of the Norfolk Police Fugitive Unit and Special Operations Team arrested Larson on Jan. 15, according to a release.
The charges stem from a midday incident on Aug. 12, 2021, when police and Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to a residence in the 3500 block of Somme Avenue — just off Tidewater Drive in the Fairmont Park area — for the report of a house fire, police said. First responders found 69-year-old Leslie Vaughn dead inside a home.

On Sept. 14, 2021, detectives determined the fire was intentionally set, with evidence from the scene indicating the presence of gasoline, according to authorities. Police said detectives also found surveillance footage showing a man using a gas can shortly before the fire broke out.
Lawson is being held at Norfolk City Jail without bond.
No other information has been released.
