Morocco recorded one of the strongest gains on the Ookla Speedtest Global Index in 2025, posting a sharp rise in both mobile and fixed broadband rankings. The country climbed 22 places on the mobile index following the launch of 5G late last year.
The rollout significantly increased the share of high-speed tests, pushing up median download speeds and allowing Morocco to regain its position as the leading country in North Africa, ranking 39th worldwide on the mobile index, ahead of Algeria and Tunisia.
Progress was also recorded on the fixed broadband side. Morocco rose 11 places to 105th globally, achieving a median download speed of 56.27 Mbps in the fourth quarter of 2025, largely driven by faster fiber deployment.
While analysts expect Morocco’s ranking to ease slightly in 2026 as the proportion of 5G tests stabilizes, the country remains among the region’s top performers as North Africa continues its transition from 4G to 5G in mobile networks and from DSL to fiber in fixed broadband.
