
Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue identified the two men who died in a fire last week in the 90 block of West County Street.
Donald Charles Allen and Richard Shumaker both died in the fire on Jan 21. They were 67 and 75, respectively. In total, six people were taken to the hospital for their injuries, including one firefighter. The three people with nonfatal injuries were treated for smoke inhalation and burn injuries. Authorities did not release the identity of anyone else involved.
The house had been converted to a multifamily unit where 10 people lived, according to a neighbor. The house was originally built in 1897, according to property records.
The fire is still being investigated by Hampton Fire Marshal’s Office. Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue’s spokesperson declined to share any additional information.
