Ten people, including eight pedestrians, were hurt after a box truck driving along a Manhattan avenue barreled into the back of a parked van that was sent ricocheting onto the sidewalk, according to police.
The crash occurred near the corner of Eighth Avenue and West 30th Street in Chelsea around 4 p.m., police said. The box truck was driving uptown when it crashed into the parked van.
The parked vehicle then flew onto the sidewalk, injuring at least eight people who witnesses said were waiting at the bus stop. Two people inside the box truck were also injured.
Cellphone video showed the chaos moments after the crash, as injured people were knocked to the ground. A woman was pinned against the wall, according to witnesses.
All of those who were hurt were expected to survive, police said, though one victim had critical injuries.
The box truck stayed at the scene as police shut down the street temporarily. It was not clear what caused the truck to lose control and hit the van. Police said no charges were expected to be filed, as the crash appeared to be accidental.
